sterns edits returns after the sell-out success of its debut edition with another two catalogue reworks from ben gomori. this time he turns his attention to burkina faso s much-loved taxi-driver-turned-singer, amadou balaké. balaké ( porcupine in mandinka) is burkina faso s proudest musical export, and in 2013 he recorded his final album before passing away: in conclusion. the record saw him revisit some of his most popular tracks from his remarkable 50-year career, backed by an eight-piece burkinabé band who took the country s traditional sounds and brought them into a contemporary light. gomori retains the essence of the original recordings which were mostly captured in one take and marries them to vigorous afro-house stylings. bar konon mousso (musicien c est pas quelqu un) in which balaké tells of a bar lady being unimpressed by his profession, gets a gentle push towards the modern dancefloor, its wonderful sax lines resplendent. massa kamba is taken for a drive down the more traditional route, with commanding drums bolstering the original grooves and a marvelous triple harmony brass section at its core. balakes freewheeling style suits the hypnotic feel of the edits to a tee. sterns edits is an official collaboration between african music stalwarts sterns music and london s ben gomori.

following the release of synkro aka joe mcbride collection of his formative early works earlier this year, apollo recordings is proud to present a brand new ep that draws on the rich heritage of library music. despite having come up during the dubstep era mcbrides music has always resisted easy classification - hand in hand sees him shift his musical focus in a yet more cinematic direction. mcbride explains: the record was inspired and influenced by my love of electronic 80s uk library records like the chappell av series, bruton, soundstage & de wolfe music library. theres a lot of synth work that carries on from my album using my trusted juno-6 / sh101 / jx8p combo with the addition of drum samples via an old akai s2800 i purchased recently. most sounds ive made from scratch on hardware based on sounds used in the library records i mentioned above along with a few cheeky samples.- synkro s signature expansive atmospherics are still very much present, but now they have been burnished by soaring synth pads and pulsing drum tracks that call to mind the haunted melancholy of john carpenter or contemporary such as legowelt or andy stott. rhythmically hand in hand sees mcbride moving somewhat away from his usual off kilter programming inspired by 2-step and garage, embracing the steady pulse of 4:4 which turns out to be an effortless fit.

beauty and the beast is the latest in the series of special limited edition david bowie 7- picture discs being released and will be out on 5th january 2018, almost 40 years to the day of its original release on 6th january 1978. beauty and the beast was the second single taken from the album heroes, the second of the berlin trilogy albums recorded with tony visconti and brian eno at the legendary hansa studios in berlin. the track also features robert fripp of king crimson on lead guitar, who claims that his guitar was all recorded in his first take. the a-side of the 7- picture disc features the track with newly remastered audio, mixed by long-time bowie collaborator tony visconti. the aa-side is a previously unreleased live version of blackout, recorded live at deutschlandhalle, berlin on 16th may 1978 during the isolar ii tour.

originally a heavy metal drummer, bård aasen lødemel aka skatebård, got into techno and rave during the 90s. hailing from a small town called Ørsta on the norwegian west coast, lødemel moved to bergen where he quickly became part of the student town s growing club scene. after handing over a homemade demo to tellé records label boss mikal telle, lødemel got signed to tellé offshoot label tellektro in 2001. his first release under the name of skatebård, a 12- mini album called -skateboarding was a crime (in 1989)- was released in 2002, and skatebård s reputation as an excellent techno/electro producer started to spread beyond norway s borders. since then skatebård has gone on to release on labels such as sex tags mania, radius records, supersoul recordings, keys of life finland, luna flicks, totally as well as his own digitalo enterprises. -skateboarding was a crime (in 1989)- was pressed in a very limited edition and sold out quickly. since then it has been a desired object for record collectors and techno and electro aficionados around the globe. now the time has come to make the mini album available again, something this true masterpiece really deserves.

optimo music dont generally do limited edition releases but when the golden filter did these extra mixes of end of times, the a1 track off their recent ep we thought they were too good to remain in the digital domain so have pressed up a small run of 12 singles aimed specifically at djs. the original single version is a future synth classic. these new dub versions take it to the dancefloor and have been tried and tested around the world over the last few months. they are considerably extended, dubbed out and add extra dynamics & ecstatic synth power with hints of the original vocal. there is a slo mo version at 103 bpm and a faster version at 118bpm which means the track should work any time from warm up to peak set. there is also a drone-apella version included too.

the second set of madness from the legendary os mutantes and like the first, an album done in close collaboration with arranger/producer rogerio duprat, whose talents add a new level of genius to the record! the albums got a compelling mix of styles that strikes out on the very first tune a playful pastiche thats partly postmodern, partly psychedelic, and still tremendously powerful decades later even if you cant understand most of the lyrics! styles are just about impossible to pin down, but thats what makes the record so unique and essential and if you ever needed one album to convince you of the mindblowing energy taking place during the tropicalia years, this one may well be it! a few tracks are written by tom ze, and titles include -dom quixote-, -dia 36-, -magica-, -rita lee-, -algo mais-, -qualquer bobagem-, and -fuga no ii-.

a legendary album! this previously unreleased album by os mutantes was supposed to be their breakthrough album to an english speaking market but for years its only been talked about in hushed whispers, and has only been heard by a lucky few! the record was recorded in paris in 1970 and its all in english! (not that were biased against portuguese, mind you but since were english speakers, its kind of a nice thing to have a record that we can understand!) the record features a number of tunes from the mutantes first two albums redone here with translated lyrics, and in a compressed pop style thats a bit smoother than the original albums, but still very nice! in fact, the records a sophisticated pop statement that would have stood well in the company of many of the best of 1970s rock elite had the boneheads at philips actually decided to release the record! no use crying over spilled milk, though because the albums out now, and its filled with loads of nice tracks like -panis et circensis-, -batmacumba-, -tecnicolor-, -el justiciero-, -im sorry baby-, -saravah-, and a sublime reading of -baby-, a track that was virtually the manifesto for tropicalia!

nice price deal !!! single life. the a side is urgent, angry and slamming. djs with kahunas will be playing these. just let doesnt feel right ride. it murders 2nd try is straight up industrial bananas, cant wait to see what happens when this is played out. the b side is full of sadness, longing and regret. single life is the artists favourite cut of the ep and i think you should know that. still waters is probably what it feels like to feel like shit and dive into a deep reservoir in the middle of the night somewhere remote where you could just drown and die without anybody around to help you.
